The American Association of Orthodontists (AAO) recommends that every child see an orthodontist by the age of 7. This is the perfect age because your child’s first permanent molars have typically come in at this time. Not to mention, this gives us a great opportunity to assess any issues that may arise before they become concerns like, crossbites, crowding, and other common problems. The other great thing about getting early treatment is it can help avoid the need for extractions of permanent teeth, palatal expanders, and/ or jaw surgery.
By seeing us early, we can monitor the growth of your child’s jaw and guide incoming permanent teeth. With early orthodontic treatment, we can regulate the width of the upper and lower dental arches to gain space for permanent teeth, avoid the need for extractions, and reduce the likelihood of impacted permanent teeth later. While we do like to see kids for their initial consultation by age 7, please keep in mind that here, at Sellers Orthodontics, we typically do not start treatment at this age.
This appointment is simply for us to evaluate your child’s future needs, as well as start to establish a bond with your child. If no immediate treatment is needed, we will place your child on a recall program, in which we will see them back once a year to continue evaluating their smile as all of their permanent teeth come in.
With the growing popularity of treatment options like Invisalign and Damon clear braces, we are treating more adult patients than ever before. We expect this trend to continue as more and more adults come to realize the benefits of orthodontic treatment. No one is ever too old for orthodontics, and we can deliver a beautiful smile in an efficient, comfortable, and discreet way.
With Damon braces, we can achieve a terrific end result and finish your treatment faster. Depending upon your specific case, this can translate to a beautiful smile, months sooner. After analyzing your specific needs, we will be able to provide you with a treatment plan that will have you smiling as soon as possible.
Damon braces are very precise and effective. With this system, we can reduce the need for many of the time-consuming, complicated procedures that are used with braces.
Damon braces eliminate the need for elastic ties (not rubber bands), and that means fewer adjustments. As a result, your appointments can be spaced out further, early in treatment, and will take less time.
Due to the unique design, we can move your teeth into their correct positions with greater comfort than traditional braces. Also, Damon braces are aesthetic, comfortable, and easy to keep clean.
We are pleased to offer our patients the Damon System. These self-ligating braces allow your teeth to move more comfortably and easily. With the help of this technology, achieving the perfect smile is faster and easier than ever.
This is it! The day your smile journey really begins. Below is some handy information we’ve put together just for you.
Having braces placed doesn’t take too much time at all. Getting used to braces is a little bit of a different story. For the first few days after getting braces your teeth may feel tender or sensitive to pressure. This is normal and will go away in no time at all. One thing you may feel is that your braces are “poking out,” but this feeling will go away soon. A little orthodontic wax placed gently over your brackets will help alleviate any tenderness you may feel in your cheeks. Ran out of wax? No worries. We have plenty in case you run out. Just ask us for some at your next visit.
We recommend patients take ibuprofen right before they get their braces on to help lessen any discomfort later. If you’re feeling tender and sore after you get braces, read the instructions on your pain reliever bottle to ensure that you are taking the right dose for your weight and taking it at the right time. Some pain relievers are every 4 hours. Some are every 8. Some even recommend that you eat something when taking it. Read the label to make sure you take the pain reliever correctly.
If a bracket becomes loose or you accidentally bend a wire, don’t hesitate to reach out to our office to let us know what happened. We can either tell you how to fix the problem at home or make an appointment for you to come in right away to get it fixed.
For situations requiring immediate medical attention, contact your primary care doctor or local emergency medical services.
The good news is that most orthodontic emergencies can be temporarily taken care of at home. Usually, loose brackets and wires that are causing some discomfort or poking can be covered in wax or pushed back into place. Loose and poking wires can be manipulated using tweezers or a pencil eraser. Remember, you’ll still need to let us know what happened so we can get you in the office for us to examine the problem and fix it more permanently.
In the event of a more severe issue like if an appliance breaks, a wire becomes loose, or something prevents your mouth from opening or closing, please call our office as soon as you can for after-hours instructions.
Keep in mind that there may be some discomfort for a few days after getting your braces on and for several days after an adjustment. In these situations, rinsing with warm salt water or taking an over-the-counter pain reliever may alleviate the pain.
Dr. Sellers is a top 1% Invisalign provider and won the 2020 case of the year in North America. Trust the doctor the doctors trust. Dr. Sellers has treated many dentists and physicians in the Charlotte area.
When you choose Sellers Orthodontics for your smile, you get personalized care that offers you the latest in orthodontic technology, specifically Invisalign—one of the most cutting-edge options on the market.
Invisalign straightens your teeth gradually, comfortably, and – you guessed it – invisibly. A series of clear aligners, invisible to the world around you, are custom-made to fit your smile and gently move your teeth into place. This is done easily and painlessly using 3-D imaging technology. No ooey-gooey impressions here, folks.
After we get the initial scans of your smile, Dr. Sellers will move each tooth in the image to create custom clear aligners that will take you from day 1 to day done! Best of all, you can see how your smile will look at the end of treatment even before you begin.
While there are many benefits to using the Invisalign system, the best by far is the fact that it allows you to smile with confidence throughout your treatment. So, stop hiding your smile and start showing it off with Invisalign clear aligners.
Thanks to 3-D imaging technology, you’ll know exactly what to expect even before you begin treatment.
Since the aligners are removable, you can take them out for short periods of time to brush and floss as well as eat.
The best part is that the aligners are invisible to those around you, including those who get the closest to you. This means that Invisalign offers you the most discreet treatment available.
Your aligners are created based on the 3-D images generated by the scan. Every week you will switch to the next aligner in the series. Each switch gradually shifts your teeth, ending your treatment with a beautiful smile.
We’re proud to offer our patients the iTero Impressionless Scanner. The innovative iTero Impressionless Scanner is an advanced technology used to take oral impressions for braces, Invisalign®, appliances, and retainers. Impressionless scanning uses confocal imaging to digitally capture the shape of teeth and gums, providing a multitude of views without the use of traditional impressions.
iCat is a sophisticated Dental Imaging System that creates high-resolution 3D images of the patient’s teeth and jaws. The images allow Dr. Sellers to show a visual diagnosis of the bones, teeth, nerves, sinuses, airway, and structure of the head, face, neck, and jaw. This efficient technology helps shorten patients’ scan time. iCat also reduces scan time and reduces radiation by 75% over traditional x-rays. Pretty cool, huh?
The VPro+™ is the first and only product that supports you during active orthodontic treatment all the way through retention. It operates at a high frequency, delivering safe and gentle vibrations to improve your orthodontic treatment. And get this, you only have to use it for five minutes per day!
